Covid-19: Los efectos de la pandemia

"COVID-19: The effects of a pandemic" is a photographic exhibition that shows in images the dramatic nuances of the reality that Guatemalan society experienced during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The Colectivo de Fotojournalists of Guatemala shares with us a sample of 61 photographs that, rather than portraying events, capture the emotions and contradictions, the effects and the chaos that an unexpected event had on a fragile and sensitive society, plural and full of contrasts.

The collective is made up of more than 30 Guatemalan photojournalists with experience in national and international media. They show us photographs that go beyond representation and unfiltered emotions such as surprise, fear, anguish but also solidarity, human warmth and, above all, the courage and tireless work of front-line professionals who they attended to this crisis.

The appreciation of the photographers and the handling of the lens show us on this occasion that photography fulfills a responsible human and civic task. In addition, they invite us to carry out an introspective dialogue with these photographs that allows us to build an empathic society that is preparing to live in a new normal based on a significant fatal balance and with the need to strengthen community ties and social resilience.

The fs invite us to see ... really see. See this world around us: people, expressions and emotions; see the time and appreciate it. See the angles and the light; beauty and tragedy; human lines that cross or run parallel. They call us to be participants in photography and not just fleeting spectators of a print on paper.

The exhibition will be available from August 13 in the Delfina Luna de Herrera and Carlos Valenti rooms of the Centro Cultural Mosaico Guatemala.
